RHt - regional radiowave-deep hyperthermiaThe regional radiowave-deep hyperthermia (RHT) is administered in nearly all hyperthermia centres based on electrohyperthermia with the OncoThermunit or the system of Celsius 42. |
The therapy targets individual body areas is generally free of side effects and can be applied ambulatory. The heating of the tumour tissue up to 44 ° C partially also warms the adjoining healthy tissue. But the healthy tissue can deviate the heat easily by increasing the blood circulation whereas the tumour tissue does not have this ability due to its primitive blood supply. This leads to a heat accumulation in the tumour tissue that results in an undersupply of the tumour cell with oxygen and nutrient. The resulting dysfunction of important metabolic processes during cell division and conservation as well as the reduction of the pH-value have the effect of an acid intoxication in the tumour. The thermal damage also leads to a failure of important vital repairing functions of the tumour cells. Hence, damaged cell parts can not be replaced (cell membrane and proteins), this can finally lead to a die off of the tumour cell. |
